Merry Christmas in July

Hello crafty friends,

Mary here today w/a card featuring the newly released Delicate Tree - Whispers:

I started this card by die cutting my tree from green glitter paper.  Once die cut, I covered the back of the die cut with score tape and attached it to a solid piece of card stock.  Next I pour glitter over the whole piece.  I used the score tape backing sheet to burnish the glitter into all the openings of the die cut.  I hand cut the now solid tree and backed it w/foam squares and a few red gem stones to the front.

I set my tree element to the side and started working on my card base.  I covered the front of my 5"x6.5" card with a piece of 6"x6" wood grain pattern paper, but notice that to make my pattern paper fit my 6.5" tall card I used the piece left over from the 5" wide side.  Did that make sense? You can tell that the paper's orientation is different, but w/some patterns that's OK.

Once the card was covered,  I went to work on the rest of my elements.  I stamped my train on white card stock and fussy cut it (oh, yes I did) and believe me you develop a fast appreciation for dies when you do any fussy cutting.   I did a little bit of coloring on the train.  I'll give you a tip... do the coloring before the fussy cutting, because it's not funny messing up the coloring on a piece that you have fussy cut.

Building the card was easy from this point on.  I glued the back of the train element onto the card front, tucked the tree into the center and added double layer of foam squares to the front of the train, so that it had a little more dimension than the single layer foam backed tree.

My last addition to the card was the die cut Merry Christmas from one of my all time go to Christmas dies,  the Holidays Compliments 1 die word set.

Here are the dies I used on this card:

    1. Thanks Lisa. I have to admit that I picked up the train stamp just so I could pair it up w/a tree. I was so happy to get the Delicate Tree die from DV, because it fits so well :)
